Ard Bit is a Rotterdam-based composer and sound designer who creates audio sculptures which are fragile, layered and characterized with great detail.
His musical forms arise by free improvisation and systematic composition with the focus on minimalism. There’s ample detail as he builds layer upon layer of sound design into heavily atmospheric and melancholy constructions. No one dimensional outing but a wide-ranging affair of electronic soul and downtempo funk.
In 1999 he embarked on a study of electronic music composition at the institute of Sonology of the Royal Conservatory in The Hague. His teachers: Richard Barrett, Kees Tazelaar, Konrad Boehmer, Paul Berg and Peter Pabon. Graduating with a bachelor’s degree in June 2003.
Hereafter he focused on composition and sound design for advertising, musea and spatial environments as his moniker Skeep (and nowadays also as Walvisnest) and worked on some musical ideas which resulted years later in Spanon. His debut album was produced between 2004 and 2008 and released via Symbolic Interaction in Japan (29 September 2009).
In 2011 Table For Two was released, a split ep with Astroposer on Shipwrec Records, and in 2012 and 2014 respectively Yelleen and Ellioth on Lowriders Recordings. He got remixed by Julien Mier, Alphabet’s Heaven, Strand, Roel Funcken, Generate and collaborated with Jor Mesin and has been included in several electronic compilers over the years.
He is an active member of the Lowriders Foundation since 2016, focusing on promoting music experience, organizer and artistically responsible for the new KRACKLE concert series in Rotterdam.
